• Celesta Capital, a venture fund investing in deeptech across the US, Israel, and India, has launched its first India-focused fund, Celesta India Fund V, with a target corpus of Rs 500 crore (around $56 million). The fund aims to capitalize on the growing investor interest in India's deep-tech ecosystem.
• The India-dedicated fund has secured a commitment of Rs 100 crore (around $11.3 million) from the fund of funds managed by Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), a government-backed lender. Celesta Capital has also increased the target corpus of the vehicle to Rs 1,000 crore after receiving positive response from LPs.
• Celesta Capital, formerly known as WRVI Capital, has been investing in India through its global fund and aims to increase its India portfolio from 15% to 25% or more of its total corpus. The firm typically invests between $5-15 million in Series A, B, and C rounds.
• Celesta Capital is part of the India Deep Tech Investment Alliance (IDTA), which has committed $1 billion towards the sector, and its India portfolio includes companies like Agnikul, ideaForge Technology, and Pixis. The firm secured an exit in ideaForge’s initial public offering in 2023, reaping multi-fold returns.
